Sustainable source of livelihood to 200 marginal tribal families in Thakurmunda Block, Mayurbhanj district has been provided through an innovative intervention of development of orchard (wadi) with integrated soil and water conservation measures, retention and management of soil health, water resource development, various inter-cropping of vegetables and plantation of fodder and fuel wood species on the fence, health care facilities for the project  stakeholders and drudgery reduction of tribal women. Income generation in terms of wage employment has been increase to about 15000 person days by developing wadi by way of on-farm operations, harvesting, loading, transporting, unloading, packing, distribution and marketing. Greening the unproductive land would help them not to depend on the local forest for their livelihood, fodder and fuel wood. This would save the forest and thereby the carbon sequestration.
