Self - help groups

Self-help groups of women have emerged as the most successful strategy in the process of participatory development and empowerment of women. Sambandh has taken up the activity of formation and strengthening of thrift & credit institutions as the process towards enhancing economic security to women and empowering them for handling issues. Out of the strength of women SHGs One GP level federation have been emerged who play the key role in issue identification and management.

Wife’s Support Saved the family of Ajodhya

Ajodhya Naik of village Dhatikidiha was leading a very miserable life as he was unable to provide atleast two full meals a day to his 7 family members in spite of contributing his hard labour in collection of NTFP, wage labours & land. His wife Saanta Naik became a member of Maa Laxmi Sanchay Samittee and saving one fist of rice daily to deposit Rs.10/- per month in SHG. After some days Saanta started rice trading by taking Rs.300/- loan from the group. When the trade clicked he again invested Rs.1000/- by taking loan from the group. She repaid all the amounts and had taken Rs.3500/- from the group and earning Rs.500-800/- per month as additional income. Out of this trade she could now send her children to school

 

  • 100% of SHG members are not taking loan from money lenders.
  • 18 SHGs have started different trades like rice trading , livestock through availing loan from bank & linked under SJSY.
  • 5 grain banks have been formed by SHGs.
  • The SHGs can earn upto Rs.500-800/- per month through petty trading.
  • Women SHG members in Salchua G.P have formed a Federation at G.P level and capable of handling different issues.
  • The SHGS have succeeded in availing PDS & establishing external linkages for resource mobilization.
  • SHG members play the key role in watershed development activities and of village level micro –plan development.
